The African National Congress (ANC) was founded in 1912, and its establishment can be attributed to a group of visionary leaders who sought to unite the people of South Africa in their struggle against racial oppression and discrimination. The founders of the ANC were individuals of great courage, determination, and a profound commitment to justice and equality.

One of the key figures in the formation of the ANC was Pixley ka Isaka Seme. Born on October 1, 1881, in Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal), Seme was a highly educated lawyer and intellectual. He played a pivotal role in mobilizing various African political organizations and individuals towards the creation of a united front against colonialism and racial discrimination.

In January 1912, Seme convened a meeting in Bloemfontein, which marked the birth of the South African Native National Congress, later renamed the African National Congress. This historic gathering brought together representatives from different regions and backgrounds, aiming to promote the rights and interests of Africans in South Africa.

Under Seme’s leadership, the ANC adopted a visionary and inclusive approach. He emphasized the need for unity among Africans, recognizing that their strength lay in their collective action. Seme argued that the liberation struggle should be fought not only by Africans but also in collaboration with other progressive forces within South Africa and internationally.
